Sustainability in production (e.g., according to ISO 14001) and in the supply chains (certified according to BSCI & ISO 45001)

Sustainability

Although denim and jeans have a prominent role in the fashion trade, it is time to think about jeans industry's impact on the environment.

For ten years now, we have therefore focused on sustainable production and reducing the negative impact of the jeans industry on the environment.

As we all know, cotton cultivation and processing has sustainability issues: it requires 1500 liters of water to grow 1.5 pounds of cotton that is needed to produce a pair of jeans.

In recent years ASPOP has been taking active steps to reduce its environmental impact through sustainable production lines and products, more efficient production processes and technologies that reduce water consumption.

In addition, a huge amount of pollutants are released during different processing stages of denim production, especially in dyeing, finishing, washing and bleaching. The entire denim industry, from cotton irrigation to manufacturing, is responsible for a high water footprint.

Research & Development

Furthermore, the use of metal accessories such as buttons, zippers and rivets, leather-look labels and composition and care labels used in jeans production makes it difficult to recycle them.

The sewing threads used at ASPOP are made from recycled plastic bottles, the buttons used rest stock from previous seasons, and the hang tags are also out of from recycled paper. Each denim style is finished with new laser technology that use less water and energy.

Use of the latest technologies

In May 2016, ASPOP launched a laser print technology that allows clients to have their favorite designs laser engraved on their jeans instead of the traditional print.

This cuts a lot the use of chemicals in the traditional printing process and also reduces the average water consumption per jeans by 20 percent.

To clean the residual indigo dye from the jeans, ASPOP purchased ozone machines and adopted ozone washing technology, which allows the jeans to be cleaned without the use of water. As a result, the jeans can be bleached well without the use of chemical bleach.

While traditional factories consume 1,500 liters of water to produce each jeans, the use of ozonator technology requires only 0.5 liters of water per pair, as the remaining water can be recycled and reused.

The unique water recycling system and efficient washing equipment at ASPOP factory recovers 90% of the water used in the denim making process.

Future ambitions regarding sustainability

Also, in the future we will continually apply of emerging water-free technologies in denim processing and technological advancements in traditional manufacturing to contribute them even more environmentally friendly.
